Camouflage nets break up the shape of a soldier, a vehicle or a position and hide it from drones and watching eyes. They are cheap to make and they save lives, and the front never has enough of them. We weave them by hand in Wicklow, and to do it we need one everyday thing: bedsheets.
Concealment is protection. If it cannot be seen, it is far harder to hit, and the people underneath it live to hold the line another day.
Nets are woven from strips of matte fabric tied onto a mesh base. They soften hard outlines, scatter shadow and blend equipment into the ground, hiding it from drones, thermal-less optics and the naked eye. They wear out, get damaged and get left behind, so the demand never stops.
They are also something anyone can help make. A stack of old sheets and an afternoon of weaving turns into cover for someone on the front.
The raw material for a net is fabric. Old bedsheets and duvet covers are perfect, if they are the right fabric and colours.
Earth and field tones, plus white for snow. Muddled, mottled and mixed is good, uniform is not needed.
Clean, 100% cotton sheets in the right colours, folded and bagged.
Drop us a line and we'll sort the best way to get them to us — a handover in Wicklow or posting them in.
